Hi everyone, I recently picked up a 50 pack of Verbatim DVD-R's to backup some of my games. I made an ISO and went to burn it at 4x but it failed straight away, ugh. Went to try again thinking maybe bung DVD or Nero, so used DVD Decrypter, it succeeded to the end but then ejected it and put it back in again and it wouldn't read it.

I thought, crap, maybe it's the ISO's problem. So tried with another ISO and it failed straight away again, crapola, I'm wasting high quality DVD's, and fast!

But I remember a warning label on the spindle (which I don't have anymore) saying something about compatibility issues with burning at 1x-2x and thought that may have something to do with it so decided to try 8x and everything burnt and verified 100%. :o

1) Will 8x Verbatim DVD-R's ruin my laser worse than if I went out of the way to use another DVD writer to burn at 4x?

2) Anyone else had this problem before? I'm using a Pioneer DVR-110D DVD writer..

Ta!

Hmm, nope, never updated the firmware on this drive (or any) before, I'll Google it now and give it another go, thanks.

You can find firmware there. Not sure if it is third party or not
but i have used the site for my last 2 burners with no problems.
If the speed of your DVD is 16X then burning them at 8X may
work out just fine, it is not the ideal speed but still sticks
to the general rule of burning at half the speed of the DVD.
8X DVD's should be burned at 4X for best results. I have heard of people burning 8X DVD's at 8X speed with success but just do
not reccomend it.
