Im fairly new to tihs stuff, and havent had any luck with splitting DivX files etc, always getting errors or the program crashing. So is it possible to get a 700mb VCD onto one 700mb CD-R without splitting it?

Also, if its a DivX at about 677mb, can I burn it straight to CD-R to be played as a VCD on my DVD player without changing it to VCD?

not unless you have a player that plays DivX. Im not sure what you mean by the VCD is DivX. VCD is a format and can only be VCD. You can't have a DivX VCD. There are DVD players at bigpockets.co.uk that pay divx formats.

Burning it as data in a folder or just it on the disc. What does that enable you to do. The standalone still won't recognise it, will it??

Nope unless it can play MPEG-4.

Although if he wants to re-encode to 1 cd as VCD, he can use a KVCD template - http://www.kvcd.net

I only wanted to know if I can burn a DivX movie onto one CD-R so it would play on my DVD player which recognises VCD and SVCD, cos Im having trouble splitting it, it either gets errors of the prog I try to use or I lose audio.

1. What is the EXACT make and model of the your standalone dvd player
2. If you want to burn a movie in such a way it can be played on almost all standalone dvd players, you are looking to burn a (S)VCD that is, (Super)VideoCD.
3. If you have a really fancy standalone dvd player you are looking to burn is as a DataCD

(S)VCD Instructions
1. Open Nero
2. Select (Super)VideoCD (try super first, if Super doesnt work, then try VideoCD).
3. Drag and drop the movie.... Nero will check the movie for you
4 If there is a problem, Nero will tell you what the problem is. Regardless of what it says, try VideoCD and see if it gives you a smilar problem. If it DOESNT give you a problem goto Step 6. If it Does give you a problem goto Step 5.
5. If there was a problem using the movie either as a VideoCD or SuperVideoCD, try and let Nero do the encoding for you. Once the encoding is done, goto step 6. If the result of step 6 is unsatisfactory (i.e. corruption, out of synch, upside down) then proceed to step 5b
5b. Open up TMPGEnc. If the wizard does not show up, press CTRL+W. Use the wizard to select SVCD (PAL/NTSC/NTSC-Film) and fire it through the wizard. Take this MPEG file and go back to step 1
6. Burn the (Super)Video CD and enjoy (remember to burn slow)

Mpeg Splitter works well for storage, but since it needs a BAT file to re connect them, i dont recommend it.

if u burn the divx file st8 onto ur 700mb cd as data your dvd player doesn't stand a chance in hell of recognising it unless it supports mpeg-4
the only way to go about it is splitting the divx file so u can encode it as a VCD or SVCD

Hey, there does exist such kind of mpeg-4 player like KiSS DVD player DSP-450 (http://www.kiss-technology.com/projects/dvd_450.asp?id=109) which claims to support divx movies. But I just wonder how a divx file should be burnt to my cd-rw such that the player can recognize it. Anybody here has any ideas of it?

What file name I should use for the movie file? And what directory I should put it in? If there are multiple files, should there be any naming restrictions such as movie01.AVI movie02.AVI? Or there would be a menu for me to choose from? If I wanna have a chapter menu like those on DVD what could I do?

TMPGEnc, click file - mpeg tools, click the merge and cut tab!

trevor2k, i would imagine the file names should be kept short hbut for the best resource, look at any booklets u get with the player!
