Figure 1. Starting Device Manager
2. In the Device Manager window, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers node. Look for a host controller with the word "Enhanced" in the title. If you find one, your system has USB 2.0 capable ports and has the necessary host controller drivers.

Figure 2: Enhanced host controller with drivers loaded
3. If you do not find an enhanced host controller in step 2, expand the Other Devices section. Look for Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller. If you find this item, your system has USB 2.0 capable ports, but you need to install drivers for this host controller. If you do not find this item, your system does not have any USB 2.0 ports.

yes it is usb2. goto control panel\system, under general tab right handside halfway down, it should say service pack 1 or service pack 2. if not have either 1 of those, that is why the enhanced usb controller does not show up in device manager.

I don't mean to sound stupid here, but arent the ports 'USB 1.0' and USB 2.0' different, (I mean on the hardware level)

what is the problem with your usb? what is it doing or not doing? usb 2.0 is faster as far as data transfer thain 1.0, this was done to compeat with firewire, it used to be that firewire was faster transfer rate thain usb 1.0, now there is usb 2.0, and it is software/hardware

Greetin's
Hi. I have a similar question as the original poster.
I have Asus Terminator T-2 barebones running XP-pro Service pack 2.
Under Device Manager it lists under USB controllers the following
Intel(R)82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D2
Intel(R)82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D4
Intel(R)82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24D7
Intel(R)82801EB USB Universal Host Controller - 24DE
Intel(R)82801EB USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24DD
I have a pair of USB's in the front and two pair in the back. When I attempt to run my sandisk c250 (mp3 player) the computer never recognizes it. I take this to mean that all these ports are NOT USB2's. ( I tried each port ) But seeing the "Enhanced" in my manager has given me a lil' hope. Can you folks help me understand? Is it posible to switch out one of my USB's for a USB2? I have a slot still available ( one of the brown ones), do they make easy install USB ports? Argh! I do not even know the right language to express my questions.
Please help.
