Sorry if I am in the wrong spot here, but can I mod my PSX without a chip? I really want to, but I don't wanna buy a chip.

by mod i assume you want it to play backups, a PSX chip is about 5 bucks and it takes a whole 10 min start to finish to install it so why then not go with a chip? if you feel you can't install one and you have a serial port on the back (not all PSX had them) then you can get a 'gold finger' that plugs into the serial port and also has a gameshark device built into it.

Yes PSX chips are cheap and very easy to install.
