Help with HD connection to DVI Female adapter for monitor

I have a hd to dvi female adapter which is made by monster i screw it in to the back of my monitor and plug the hd cable into my ps3 and into the adapter. I put the settings changed on my display settings to HDMI but the screen goes black on my monitor and on my ps3 for 30 seconds indicating that it didnt work.Any help please?
