how do i power the xbox drive once it is connected to the computer with the sata cable. do i power the drive from the computer power or the xbox power. thanks

The Xbox. Please, please read a tutorial before you attempt to flash the 360. Here's a good one if you have a hitachi drive.

yes i have read that but i do not have the executer kit. is this a must have item? i really do not want to purchace this if it is not 100% needed.

No, get a SIL3112 PCI SATA card and use Slax to get the hitachi in modeB. Then flash.
