I have an old modified Xbox which i want to get on my wireless network so i play music and movies from my fileserver (using cable today). What do i need for this, can i use one of the network cards especially made for Xbox, or will they only work on unmodified Xboxs? What other solutions are there?

Will movies on wireless lag?

as long as the wireless setup is XBOX compatible it'll work. as far as lagging it depends on the bitrate of the media you intend on streaming. a wireless network inherently has lower data transfer speed then a wired network but in most cases this isn't going to be a problem.

just go out and get a good wireless gaming adapter
I personally bought a Linksys because that is they type of router i have. It is slower than a wired connection, which is noticable during FTP transfers. But i do not notice any lag at all when playing movies or when playing games over it.

There are a few things you may have to do to get the connection working with the wireless gaming adapter like inputing your router security type and codes. Or setting up your PC connection for "network sharing"
But getting the equipment is the first step.
here is an example of what i am talking about.

they have cheaper models as well.

Not so worried about FTP, the most important thing i music and movies.

Will I note any difference between 54 mbit/s or 108 mbit/s regarding movies and music?

I'm considering a D-Link DWL-G810 (108 mbit)

Also, will this work if the router which the D-Link DWL-G810 is communicating with, is behind an indoor concrete wall?
