i'm pretty new to this whole ps2 backup stuff. i burned a few games on really cheap DVD+R i got from microcenter (50 for 10 dollars.) Most of the games have problems (slow loading, sound missing, stuttering/skipping, etc...) but i do have a couple that work just fine with no problems at all (yet.)

before reading this forum i had no idea that the cause of these problems was because of the cheap media.

i wanted to know if it's safe to keep playing these games even though they are burned onto bad dvd r's. will this mess up the laser? the last thing i want to do is buy a new ps2.

Yeah I wouldn't use them, bad media works the laser too hard and shortens it's life.

i agree, using them puts stress on your laser having to read them, which is why you have the problems.
Not only will those problems continue but it could also
burn out your laser a lot sooner than expected.
May not be today, may not be next week. But it will over time.

Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Philips, & Sony are some good brands

yeah, just use the exact same process as you did to make the backup from the original.
Only extra thing that would be needed is if you patched the back up for online play, that would have to be done on the new copy as well.

If not then it is no different than backing up the original.
