I have been perusing the threads here, and I'm curious for the latest thought on how durable a modded ps2 is? Assuming you have a new slimline with the laser voltage fix, and you only use verbatims for backup (also, which type is best? -r or +r?) can you expect many years of service from your PS2?

I feel kind of silly going through all the trouble to mod one if it is going to die after a year or so of use.

Also, unless you have experience soldering (I have some, but from many years ago) and the equipment handy, that it is way easier to just send it out for professional install? Any feedback on mod-chips.com installers?

Thanks!

the only slim that requires a laser fix is the V12.

-Rs are the most compatible, +Rs are OK if your burner supports booktyping and you booktype to a -ROM.

if you use a quality media and produce a quality burn and take care of the disc (no finger prints/scratches) then laser issues aren't a problem.
