I have been attempting to backup my existing DVDs. I have read your articles and utilized a lot of hints given to other newbies. I followed the instructions on how to burn using Nero. I have gone to nero and utdated to the lastest 5.5. version. I am using DVD Shrink and have used the how to for re-authoring and the user guide. The problem is that I received a burn process failure at 1X. After it appears that the software made numerous attempts. I have the Sony Vaio with 2.4 pent., and 512 DDR(Don't know if you need this or not) the burner is the Sony DVD RW +/- U12A. I received a "Text 0 file writer.cpp, line 316" code of some sort that was queued several times and then ultimately resulted in write error. There is also a "DVDR-1135 file writer.cpp, line 333 write error, text 0 file threadedtransfer.cpp, line 222 all writers idle, stopping conversation, Text 0 file threadingtransfer.cpp, line 216 conversation idle, stopping reader, Phase 38 file dlgbrnst.cpp, line 1655 burn process failed at 1X, and a Text 0 file SCSICMD.CPP, LINE 406 SCSI not using temporarybuffers allocated". any help would be appreciated-thanks for the website!

Install the latest ASPI layers, turn off the DMA in the device manager settings, for that drive, re-install Nero 5.5.10.42

Reason:
Windows nt based systems, ie nt and xp sometimes have a clash between the scsi drivers and Nero. This happens when u use the manufacturers ide drivers.

If the above did not solve your problem, try this:
Delete the manufacturers drivers in the device manager. Reload windows. It will install the generic ide drivers. U will then need to boot twice once for the ide drivers and once to recgonise your cd/dvd roms/writers.

Hope this helps

I'm using Nero 5.5. I went to Nero and updated to the new 10.42. I am using Sony DVD-RW disks. As far as getting layers and from that point on, you lost me. I am new at this and would appreciate any time and patience. Where do i find the latest ASPI layers, and how do I turn off the DMA in the device manager settings? Where is the device mananger? As far as the settings go, I was following the directions by www.chrismccan.co.uk for nero and DVD Shrink. As you can see, I am in the right forum-newbie!

lol - thats no problem DarkmanX, everyone learns from somewhere.

To turn off DMA do the following:

Click on Control Panel >> System >> Hardware >> Device Manager >> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers >> select Primary or secondary (depends where the drive is installed) >> right click >> Properties >> Advanced Settings >> PIO on the drive which is the writer.

For ASPI select search at the top of this website and search for it in software. Download the Adaptec layers there.

The guide you are using will work fine.

Hope this helps

I changed the settings with the help of your directions-Thanks. Does it matter to set the "PIO" on the primary IDE & the secondary? Both drives are listed on both channels. In any event, I set the "0" drive (DVD-RW drive) on both channels to "PIO". I follwed the directions again, and I was notified that it was successfully burned on to the disk with no errors. The problem is that the only thing on the disk is the .bup, ifo and VOB files in a folder. No movie when I put the disk in the DVD drive. What did I do wrong?! I followed the directins step by step. The only change is that I follwed the extra step to Re-Author so I could burn the movie at 15% with no extras, just the movie-Help!!!!!

You have obviously burnt a Data disc by mistake. In Nero use the DVD Video option or DVD-UDF/ISO option to drag the files and then burn.

I've done that, but I think I may've figured out the problem. I have been dragging the folder named "The Negotiator" to the cd. Should I have another folder titled VIDEO_TS created and drop the "The Negotiator" folder into that? The beginning of the directions for Nero states to have a folder created named VIDEO_TS and all files to be nburned are to be placed in this folder. I was simply dragging the folder over to the disk. Is the software not reading correctly because of the different name on the folder? In any event I will start this process and see what happens when I return later this evening.

Yeah :-) it has to be called VIDEO_TS for a DVD player to read it as movie.

As well, I also add an empty AUDIO_TS folder to the disc as well. Most stand alones are fine without it, but I've run across a couple that needed the folder there.

As I said, not usually needed, but for the sake of a few dozen bytes.........

All the bruning info you need to start is here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/141024.php#dvd9dvd2one

Have you experienced problems with DVD players when you didnt have an AUDIO_TS flder, because its really just for the DVD Audio aspect and shouldnt affect the outcome of Video.

The one that stands out my mind is a buddy's DVD player. I forget what the brand name is; it's one of those knock off sounding ones, like Sorny or Pablosonic or something. In the users manual it says it does not support DVD-R. Of course being real men, we did not read the manual. (His wife read that part later on.) But we discovered that adding the AUDIO_TS folder made the DVD-R's work. I've tried it with 2 discs burned the exact same way, and the one without the folder did not work.

I know, it makes no sense, but if it works......

aaahhhhh!!!! It wouldn't even begin to burn. I got an error the minute I started to burn with Nero. I was on my way out, so I coundn't fuss with it. Here is where I am at. I have the files stripped using DVD Shrink. I have those files saved on my D: in a folder titles VIDEO_TS. Inside that folder is another folder with the title of the movie (The Neotiator) and inside of this folder is the bup, ifo, bup files. I've been opening Nero, following the guide for burning (including highlighting DVD-ROM [UDF/ISO]). I drag the file from the explorer are and drop it on the CD. I get the blue bar and the burn process has beeen working, but the end result on the DVD is not a movie, but a folder with the bup, ifo & bup files.

Problemo straight away. You can only have the main movie files inside the VIDEO_TS folder. Nothing else

I just tried another session basically saving the stripped files from DVD Shrink into D:
/folder named VIDEO_TS. When I drag the files from this folder to the CD to start burning, I get an instant error.Don't know what else to do here... Which are the movie files? The ISO files?

Use DVD Shrink. Create an output folder on your desktop called VIDEO_TS. Select the output folder in DVD Shrink as the folder on your desktop. When burning, use Record now Deluxe and select the whole folder as the folder for burning, not just the contents. If you get an error, install ASPI layer.

Am I to understang that Nero 5.5 10.42 is the problem? I updated and got the ASPI layers from Adaptec. So, the folder has to be on the desktop instead of on the hard drive. I've been dragging the whole folder to the cd and I get an error at 1X when attempting to burn. After reading the other articles on this site, I can't see what i've been doing to be different than what u are suggesting, but I'll try it.

No, what you are doing sounds fine. It may well be Nero as the problem. Have you tried Record Now Deluxe? if not, check this link out:

http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/recordnowmax.htm

Thre is a download at the top of the page for it. There may be a 30 day trial there.
Have you checked your DMA settings?

I beleived it was u who walked me through the DMA settings. Is there no way, I can keep Nero? I would hate to have to pay for another program when most of the members seem to use Nero & I already have it.

Is it true what u said earlier about not using "All" of the files from the VIDEO_TS folder. I think the ISO and the VOB files are important, Am I suppose to delete or disgard the BUP files? I just can't seem to get a handle on this.

No, dont delete any fiels unless you kow what you are doing. Incase it is a problem with the VT headers that DVD Shrink is coming up with, do you want to try running the VOB's created through TMPGEnc DVD Author. If so here is a guide and i can help you too.

I'm attempting to re-strip the dvd using DVD Shrink. I will save this to the FAMOUS VIDEO_TS file and then go to Nero Again. I will double check to make sure that the folder is not open when I drag it over, but this is getting out of hand.

Dont have the folder open when you drag it across. Make sure that all the files are contained within the VIDEO_TS folder. Drag the folder across using Nero. Burn as a UDF/ISO DVD ROM. Follow this user guide:
