what is the difference between these two 5.0a and 5.0b?

I believe that the consensus is that b is better. The differences lie in the reading speeds. a reads originals faster and b reads backups faster.

No. A Reads backups at the same speed as originals and B read's them slower. Originals play at the default 12x speed no matter what.
