I started ripping my favourite CDs onto my hard drive, and got all happy and warm. Now I'm wanting to put some of my movies and videos on the HD. The files are in .avi right now. I burned them to a disc as a Data Disc, and the PS3 recognized that there was a data disc in it, but wouldn't recognize the files.

I'm wondering if this is because I can't store videos on the HD, or because they're .avi?

So my question is: Can video files be taken from a disc and stored on the hard drive? If so, how do I have to burn the disc? (data disc with avi's didn't work).

PS3 will recognize .mp4 video files or whatever official file fomats are supported by it. AVI files are not reognized so your PS3 OS cannot see them.

With linux on PS3, you should be able to view and transfer them but then this will be all under linux not the PS3 game OS.
