Hello evry1, (im new to the forum but i have read the rules..)
i have recently installed a duo3 on my v5/6 30003r ps2 console and have successfully burnt and played quite a few backups,
(my 1st attempt at an install was a success, WOHoooOO, i read so many threads saying it is very hard,anyway..lol)
however the other day i tried to rum SMS media player with ulaunch v4.06 via the CD boot method, and when i Got uLaunch on my Tv screen and configred it, i then selected the "ok" from the menu but it crashed and the DVD drive was spinning my mad.
so then i gave it a restart and got it working and booted SMS,
BUT (Here is the problem) now when i play GAMES they load and run Reaellllllyyyyyy slowwww.... its as though the drive speed has reduced??? so loading time has at least doubled....
does any1 know what could be wrong or how can i fix this..i have looked evrywhere and searched this forum but could anything.
INFO: PS2 mod with DUO3
Ver scph30003r
am using Verbatim & Memorex Media
Nero and ALc 120% for burning
Any help would be greatly appreciated., its a very wierd prob, i will try to help any1 else if they got problems aswell..

note - i forgot to mention that after the the attempt at UlaunchElf, sometimes the PS2 will boot in black & white and i am asked to enter setting again, it will then not see the Mem card or disk when in the browse menu. i now have to play around with the restart and eject button to get the console to display a colour screen and will then recognise the disks(it did not do this before ulaunchelf)

if you'd learn to use the EDIT button on your post rather then double posting (which I've noticed you have done on another thread as well) then people are more out to help.

i had simply not seen the "edit" icon and used the [+quote]that does not imply that i have not read the rules.
if you still have an issue with it, get a moderator to delete the post...

just simply telling you that if you intend to have future posts and expect to get help with them use the EDIT button. not giving you a hard time (well maybe a little), just informing you. now that we've sorted that out, chances are your memorsux media is the cause of the slow loading as could be you gave the laser a good over current when it hung up trying to read the disc. if the Verbs are loading slow too i'd say it's the laser giving problems.

lol.. ok now that its all settled..
i have contstantly tried to run the games again, and now no media is being played, when in the PS2 dashboard and in the browse section, the screen simply says "reading disk"
now from what you say and from a little research it is most likely the laser
so what i have just done is attempt the "Disk read error" Repair procedure BUT no luck,,, i have tried to place the gear on almost every other tooth/position and it dosnt read anything... does this mean new laser?
thanks for the info: but could if have fried that quickly?? i only left it for mayby 8 secs

8 seconds is a long time, just ask anyone who rides bulls, so yes it's likely you've over current'd the laser and it's now toast.
FWIW the PS2 does not run a dashboard, it's BIOS only.

yes but you have to flash the MOBO driver with 'lens change' to the right one before you install it :) Google will do wonders for you there.

Small correction here ....
the V1-V4 PS2's came with a KHS-400B. The KHS-400C is a direct replacement for the KHS-400B's meaning you do not need to use the lenschanger app to reflash your PS2's EEPROM. The only time this is needed is when you go from lets say a KHS-400B to a HD7 then you would of course need to flash the EEPROM to accept the HD7 laser.
Have fun!

Errr yupe missed that. Dont know how V4 got in my head. Anyway the V5's mostly came with 400C's. A very small percent came with 400R's. So just keep an eye out for what you have and try to stay with a 400C they are typically known to be the best. However good luck finding a new one.

Hey no problem man!
Yes unfortunately good lasers for the fat PS2's are expensive and even though you pay top dollar doesn't mean its going to be a good laser either. I wish you the best.

agreed, and it never ceases to amaze me that you can buy a working console cheaper then a broke one or just a laser. it's gotten ridiculous and I've picked up more working consoles of late to use as 'parts' because they run 30+ % cheaper in price then a broke one. and the people who'll buy XBOX drives that are locked and no EEPROM amaze me even more so.

hello again guys, i have a problem.... lol
this time - the bast#@rds that i brought my laser from have given me what looks identical to the 400R or the HD-7 model repacement's.
it has a sticker on the laser saying 400W, now i brought it from a popular website in the UK, i have contacted them several times to tell them its not the corrent 1 and all they keep saying is that it is a direct replacement....
i said like they look f'in different OMG, and u cant call them.. its just e-mail.
i have said i want the corrent 400C replacement but they are being very hasty...
now the question is .... is there no easier way to change the mobo driver than to do it with a working memcard exploit with the lenschanger app??? also is this possible with the duo3?
if my dvd drive will not work, how can i load the exploit (USB stick??)
i do not have the network adaptor eaither...
hint: my web name is "mr mod chip" ;) (google)
note- i have found a bit of info no this laser

Believe it or not they are correct. Very recently a third party company has started making lasers that are compatible with the fat PS2's now that Sony has stopped doing so. There calling these lasers the 400W and the 400H.
The 400W is a direct replacement for the KHS-400B/400C lasers. The 400H is a direct replacement for the HD7 and KHS-400R lasers.
I have yet to test any of these laser but from what I have heard from others in the field they are so far working well. Unfortunately they are not cheap.
Have fun!

hello modgod, i have got one of those 400W, but its not working in my ps2,
i am sure its installed correctly but when i start the PS2 the the disk spinner will spin once and then stop?
i have checked other threads saying it cold be a dodgy laser or faulty ribon cable but i have checked both with the old faulty laser and it will spin as it would for a working PS2.
if it is a direct replacement then i will not need to flash eeprom correct???
update- i have tried the old faulty lase again and now thats not spinning the drive, i dnt think a red beam is comming out of either laser, i suppose that most likely means a faulty ribbon? although i have just checked every cable and they seem fine..lol..

Does the new laser have an anti-static solder blod on it some place? If so this could be the problem. You simply remove it with de-soldering braid.
As for the old laser now not letting the disc spin as well.... yeah sounds like a ribbon issue. Hard to say.

hello again, i hadnt removed the solder blob , ooops,
i was looking in the wrong place and thought it didnt have a solder blob in place,
anyway, i have removed the blob but there is still tiny fragments of solder left, i did no have a de-soldering braid, i had just used the solder iron... well i have tested it in my ps2..
it now shows a beam or light : ) and drive spins when game is in drive but the screen stays at 'reading disk' i then went through the 'disk read error' fix procedure but i have had no luck
could this be due to the little bits of solder left where the blob was?
sorry for all the Q's, just that i have family over for xmas and lil' cousins wanted to play the Ps2, hence the many Q's and need for help...
thanks again.

Did you ever get your issues with the 400W laser cleared up? I need a replacement laser for my v4 ps2 and I'm considering picking up a 400W. How did you fare with yours?
