OK, I tried the Ripit4u, AnyDVD and Nero, but anytime I use DVDShrink my comupter turns off (Crasha) even if I try to dvdshrink from files and not from the disk directly. This was not happening a few days ago. It all started with the MS Update and the AnyDVD update. I am still experiencing the problem even when uninstalling and re-installing dvdshrink.
Are there any good alternatives to DVDShrink out there? I am sad this program is not working. It has been my most favorite and most used of all the ripping softwares.
Arrrrrrrrrrrr, it be close to holiday gift giving time and this is cramping my plan.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

What MS update are you referring to? Others may need to know as well. Have you uninstalled the update? How about a system restore?

Duh! Sorry here are the update #s. There are a batch of them. For some reason the update installed itself. I always prohibit that and I have no idea why it changed.
Windows XP Hotfix #s KB889673, KB873333, KB884575, KB891781, KB892559, KB885250, KB896256, KB896256, KB888402, KB885464, KB885855, KB885884, KB886185, KB887472, KB888239, KB888113
Security Update for Windows XP #s KB893066, KB896358, KB896423, KB896422, KB903325, KB901214, KB924191, KB923191, KB923414, KB924496, KB922819, KB922760, KB924270, KB920213, KB923980, KB923694, KB926255, KB925454, KB923689
Update for Windows XP #s KB894391, KB896727,
Security Update for Windows Media Player 6.4 KB 925398
Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803) (Removable)
Windows Media Player 10 (Removed today, installed 12/14)
Windows Media Format Runtime (Installed 12/14)(Removable-WTF is this?)
I have tried to restore the system to restore points previous to the evil overloard updates and the AnyDVD update. Still no dice, rolled back the restore to current point.
I had limited success when removing and reinstalling DVDShrink, but this only worked for two dvd's and then began the crasha crasha crasha dance again.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I tried shrinkto5 but I can't get it to burn throgh Nero. Boy am I lost!

Whew! What a list. I was hoping there would have been only one (or two) to point a finger at.
I looked at the list on MS that I have NOT installed (hide them please) and did not find any from your list that I have sent to hidden status.
I looked at my add/remove programs under the control panel with show updates checked. These Windows XP Hotfix #s KB889673, KB884575, KB891781, KB892559, KB896256, KB896256, KB888402, KB885464, KB885855, KB885884, KB888239 were not on my list - so I don't have them installed. May or may not be a problem. See if MS has an explanation on their web site regarding these.
This Security Update for Windows XP # KB903325 was not on my listing. Same comment.
All the rest: Update for Windows XP #s KB894391, KB896727,
Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803) (Removable)
Windows Media Player 10 (Removed today, installed 12/14)
Windows Media Format Runtime (Installed 12/14)(Removable-WTF is this?) - Were not on my listing.
Did have the WMP KB925398 update.
Something must be conflicting on your system. I would suspect the Hotfixes most, but which one? The Security updates should be safer.
You could try uninstalling entries to see if it helped. Then reinstall if you wish. Try at your own risk - please don't blame me, I am not that much of an expert. Just willing to try things as long as it can be reversed.
You could see what others say as well. Good luck!

WOW!
Thanks for posting again after such a crazy list!
I used advice from blinkie7 that was to another poster with similar issues:
1. Run a reg cleaner (ccleaner is what I used)
2. Make sure the airflow is good and CPU is not overheated. DVDShrink is very CPU intensive. Don't multitask. I resorted to multicomputering.
3. After this brilliant advise I reinstalled AnyDVD, and DVDShrink.
BINGO!
I did rip to HD from AnyDVD and will try next with it on the fly per usual.
