ConvertXtoDVD for its simplicity and output, is the best IMO.

I have used quite a few programs, maybe not long enough to obtain the best results but I consider ConvertXtoDVD to be the best 1 step program out there. I also use a seperate encoder (one of the best and not TMPGEnc which also is), an authoring program and a burning program and others like bitrate calculators, etc. but I find myself using ConvertXtoDVD more and more often, especially for AC3. It's fast, has amazing quality, is easy to use and is not expensive. CCE is also supposed to be very good but complicated to use and one I haven't tried due to problems I had with it. Edit: actually, I found the best to be what you're comfortable with and gives results you're happy with.

Can you guys tell me if ConvertXtoDVD (or any converters/burners) will burn data DVDs? Specifically, filled with mp3's and/or videos in their original format (so I could fit 6 or so movies on one disc for backup).

All I have ever used and know of for data is Nero although there must be a few others.

ConvertXTODvd is all I use now. I used to use allot of diffrent programs but use ConvertXTODvd now for all.

As to burring MP3s you would need to use a program like Nero to burn data DVD's.

One thread suggests ConvertX to DVD to convert AVI files. Is there any freeware/shareware programs that will do the job? I have some vhs tapes that I want to convert, and DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter will not convert them from the mpeg2 file that my capture card creates. I can use Pinnacle Studio Plus to create an AVI file, which seems to be the easiest way to do the job.

Thanks,
Ed

Try this predecessor to ConvertXtoDvd: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...xtodvd_free.cfm Missing a few options but very good as I recall. Edit: I think WinAvi burns MPEG2.
