Im trying to get my computer hooked up to my TV so that i can watch videos that are on my computer on the tv. The two s-video cables i have in the back of my computer say "vid in" and they are s-video cables. I dont think those will work because i need a "vid out" correct? So my reasoning is that i either need to buy a graphics card with an svideo out port on it or get some kind of converter from DVI to s-video.

I found this for a converter:
http://www.nextag.com/Apple-DVI-to-Video...1885C23A5FD02B8
would that work? (i dont have a mac)

also, which method would give a better picture quality to the tv? or would either even be noticible?

Thanks.

so...does this sound plausible or even make sense? Basically all i want is the picture from the computer to show up on the tv screen instead of the computer screen, i have two DVI ports on the back of my computer, and two ports thats say "vid in" that are s-video. how can i make it work?

I've actually been looking for the same thing for quite some time now - it's not an easy part to find. I'd be careful with the MAC converter - I've come across some other message boards where people have used them and said that they really only work with MAC's. I remember someone mentioning that the MAC DVI is not a digital output, but rather an analog output, which is why you can convert to svideo so easily. I don't know if that's true or not - I won't claim to be a video expert. From what I've gathered so far, I've been able to find s-video to DVI converters (but not the other way around) and they're relatively large "black-boxes" with loads of circuitry. These units run in the $200 range and higher. I think for that price you can just end up getting a DVI out video card and accomplish the task much easier. I think the reason why we don't see them is because it's cost prohibitive.
