OK, I have been thinking about starting a thread for this for a while now simply because nobody else has (to my knowledge, including a forum search) and it would be some handy info. Post here if you have burned PS2 backups on DVD+R and tried to boot them. I have read that there is major confusion about which versions will work with what and blah blah blah...Time to try and build a list.
Post your SCPH number(s), number of different DVD+R's tried, and boot method. Maybe we'll be able to clear the confusion!!!

It has very little to do with what version PS2 you have
a V1-V4 will not read DVD+R
Every other model is suppose to. Each PS2 is different, plus you
have to consider the quality of the media used.
DVD-R is the most compatible with all systems
DVD+R will work on most systems
DVD+R booktyped to DVD-Rom should work better than if it were
burner without booktyping.

Steimy, you misunderstood me...I've read this information before. What you are telling me is what is 'supposed' to be true. I need people to verify it....Have you personally tried?

I have 2 PS2's V7 and V12
I have been burning discs for years now
I have tried all different brands and types and on mine
if they are done correctly just about anything that is quality media will work.
Philips 8X DVD-R worked great (except for the white top printable type)
Philips 16X DVD+R worked too
Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R work great
TDK 4X and 8X work unless you get some bad discs in the bunch, they are surely not what i would tell people to use though.
Memorex completely suck, avoid them at all costs.
Imation are cheap but i did a few games and they worked, again not something i reccomend buying
Verbatim 8X DVD+R Lightscribe discs work just fine
my top 2 choices are
Taiyo Yuden (premium line) 8X DVD-R
Philips 8X DVD-R
they work every time.
that more of what you had in mind?

lol steimy....I did get the info I wanted. You can verify that DVD+R copies work on both V7 and V12 then? Tucker has said V7 works fine...You can be second to confirm this.

as long as it is a decent brand of DVD+R it will work in the ps2, don't listen to all the lies saying DVD+R causes problems on ps2.

tucker, some people claim that...but they don't have the data to back it up. I'm looking for that data to end the confusion and myths;)
nonconguy, you tried verbatim...I do not reccomend 16x media, but if it reads decently...How many attempts did you make, and at what burn speeds?

i really do stick by my original statements
If you buy quality media & have a good DVD Burner
your PS2 (V4 and up) should be able to play DVD+R or DVD-R in any speed from
4X to 16X
there are really way to many factors involved to come up with
an "end all" post that will tell people it will or will not work.
Different PS2's with different laser strength. People who clean their laser VS people who do not. Slight diffences in the laser
voltage. many different brands and types of DVD buners both internal and external. People who update their burners firmware VS people who don't. The hundred types and speeds of DVD out there. Swap Magic users VS modchip users and the different kinds of modchips.
there is just no way that a few people can say this disc worked in this version of PS2 and have it be valid for everone. It is a nice thought but is 100% impossible.
Example. In addition to the above PS2's i also have a V5/6. When the laser started going bad i had a new one installed and a DMS4 Pro modchip put in and then i gave it to a friend who helped me a lot when i first started out backing stuff up.
He buys nothing but TDK media and for him they are a 100% success rate. I can take one of his games that works perfectly and stick it in my PS2 and it works without flaws about 50% of the time. I can take that TDK disc and copy it to one of my Taiyo Yuden of Philips discs and it will play perfectly for me, andf 75% of the time for him. Now remember this was my PS2 and before the new laser this machine was playing games that i made on those very same discs that it now can have problems with.

steimy, no offense is intended here. I'm sorry if I am offending you somehow, and I do understand what you are trying to say. That's similar to what I believe, which is why I am looking for people who have tried it on ALL versions. If somebody says it didn't work for them on Vx, but Vx did work for someone else, obviously it is possible. There was only error in the person's who didn't work. THat is why I request how many attempts people that failed tried. If it doesn't work for you, how many times did you try? Your theory, that below V5 they don't work but above V4 they do is the most common belief around this forum. But this is based on no actual data...Just looking to confirm the truth here, and if it's not true, to uncover the truth.
