Hi any ideas i am running my ps2 using a component cable, it plays games no probs but cant watch a dvd tho, screen is just blank.I have a chipped ps2 matrix infinity chip.

that is odd, nine will play them it just will not play them
that great so i decided to get a stand alone DVD player.
save my laser and plays them much better.

explain how you have it all set up as far as the wiring and all that.

that is odd, it is suppose to auto boot all PS2, PS1, and DVD movies
with your chip. Some chips have special proceedures used for
PS1 and DVD movies
But just for fun try this, see if it works to force your chip into PS1/DVD mode. If you have any PS1 games i would try those too and see if you have the same problem as with DVD Movies.
I think this is something you do while starting the PS2.
So hold the circle, then turn on the PS2 while still holding it and see what happens.

Forcing PS1/DVD mode:
Press the circle from Joypad 1.
(We placed this option just in case someone need to force the PS2 to boot in PS1/DVD mode).
