ok so just answer me strait, is it worth puting a dms chip into a slimline, to use primarily with hdd loading?

Unless you have a V12/13 slim PSTwo you cant use an HDD anyway. And if you do have a V12/13 you need to have either HD-combo or HD-Connect installed in order to do so. Any of the top 3 chips (CC, MI, DMS) can handle this task.

I think he might want a solution compatable with more then 5% of PS2 games ... but I could be wrong.

yeah i want the more compatiable way to go, but yeah ill work on getting the chip and finding a v.12 or 13...how do i install toxic? whats the best way
