Well, I installed my DSM4 Pro chip into my version 5/6 PS2 tonight. I got to the half way point where the bios wires, the power and the ground were installed. I reassembled the PS2 to boot it up and test it (as I was instructed to do by the manual I was following). It booted up fine and the test I attempted (hold down square button while booting. The "DMS4 is disabled" screen came up) was succesful. So basically, according to the manual, everything up to this point was right.

After installing the rest of the wires I hooked my PS2 back up and bad things happened...

1. When I turn on the main power switch the reset button turns red! So far so good.
2. When I push the reset button it turns green and the blue eject light turns on and I can hear things warming up inside the PS2
3. HOWEVER - no signal is sent to my TV, and when I try to open the drawer nothing happens.

Please help. What could be causing this?

Thanks,

Matt

At one point I was accidentaly a little rough with the reset/eject ribbon. It doesn't appear to be damaged, but I guess it's possible.

sorry for the late reply but you know, tiz the season :)

you might have pressure applied to the chip, make sure the MOBO shield isn't pressing down on the chip or that you don't have a wire pinched. Check points D-N and ensure that D and E are laid flat against the motherboard too.

It turns out there is a tear in my reset/eject cable. Is that something I could find a replacement for at a local electronics store, or do I need to order a specific one off the internet.

Also - is that something that would cause the problem I'm having?

you can use the edit button and save from double posting.....

the reset/eject cable is the damage to the cable to the point you don't have continuity through parts of it?? i don't think that's your problem though, best i remember there are 7 conductors in it you shouldn't have any problems checking it with a DVM. if you need a new one you'll have to pick one up online unless you know someone who does PS2 repairs who might have one laying around they run around 8-10 bucks.

i still think you'll find your problem in the previously mentioned suggestions.

Good point on the edit button. I never knew where it was, but I just found it.

There is still continuity through the reset/eject cable. As I said the buttons work and light up when the PS is turned on.

I know that the D-N wires are good because I installed those first, and after installing I reassembled the PS and tested it. The instructions to do that were to install the bios wires, the ground and the power and then reassemble and turn on the play station. I did that and when I turned it on I held down the square button. A screen came up saying "DMS4 is disabled..." The guide I was using said that if I got that screen that so far, my install was perfect. I went back and rechecked the D-N wires and they still look good.

Also, my chip is sitting flat against the motherboard so I can't imagine there is any pressure on it.

Thanks again for the help KC.

It sounds like your bios points are correct. In addition to checking for the chip being touched by the RF shield, keep an eye out for wire running over screw holes that might also be getting pinched by the RF shield. Electrical tap on the RF shield right above where you have the chip placed is a good idea as well.

You might also want to check that your CDVD points are correct and not bridged or shorted to something.

If this fails work backwards by removing the CDVD wires and do your initial test again.

Have fun!

you did use 20 awg wire for the power/gnd didn't you??

if so then try booting the console in backup mode (from standby hit reset 3x with 1 sec pauses between each reset) if it boots then you've got a corrupted BIOS on the chip and a flashing will solve it. I've only ran into that once with the same symptoms you mentioned but it's worth a shot.
