Ok, very few times that I need to say PLEASE in my title, but this is one. :)

I'm flashing my 360 to Xtreme 5.0a (seems like this is the best firmware to use) and I need some help because I'm really scared to edited by ddp something up.

1. Will I need to take apart the 360?
a) Do I need any tools like screw drivers, etc?
b) Will I need to buy something to install into the 360?
2. Will I need to buy anything for my PC?
a) Is there a DVD DL Burner that also has the ability to rip 360 games correctly?
3. Can someone give me GOOD step-by-step instructions?

Now for some info about my setup. I'm not bad with comps and am not a noob, just pretty new to this 360 stuff. I got my 360 approx. 1 - 2 weeks ago and by the looks of it I got one with a Samsung drive.
I have downloaded Xtreme 5.0 and extracted the .rar which had quite a few files in it. I read the ReadMe but it more or less had stuff about this new version and what the firmware offered, not exactly how to install it.
If I understand correctly I will have to go out and buy a certain DVD reader separate from the DVD burner I already have. What I was wondering is there a DVD DL Burner that also has the ability to rip 360 games correctly?
If there is anything else I need to know, I'd greatly appreciate if someone would help me out.

Oh and what is the chance that I totally mess up my 360 to where I can't use it any more?

Thanks!

I also saw that I will need to buy an SATA port or some stuff for my comp. Well, what if I already have these ports on my motherboard? Do I still need to buy it to read the 360 stuff?

While your answer barely helped me at all, I did see that pioneer 111d is not a dual layer burner, so that doesn't seem to help me. I also haven't been able to find the Samsung drive you were talking about.

I still need to know if I need to buy an SATA card or not.

He did answer your question... but:

1) Of course
a) Cant remember the specific screw-driver, but there is a sticky in this forum written by Tweeder
b) Not really, but will need to get something to hook up PC to 360 DVD drive
2) See b) above or tutorial
a) Pioneer 111D is dual layer I believe - the D at the end of the name, if not, I use the 110D... There is the hot swap method, but the easiest way is to get the Samsung drive / Kreon firmware suggested above
3) See tutorial at top of this 360 forum...

I've read / patched / burnt / played using the Pioneer 110D however, hot swapping is a pain, so already ordered the Samsung... A Froogle or Ebay search will help you out...

Not into flashing them, but as with any process that plays about with firmware, there is always a high chance of bricking your 360 if you dont know what your doing...

Hope this helps,
Sebastian

Sorry to double post (living up to the newbie status) but the person who flashed my 360 had a usb -> SATA cable and was using a laptop, so not, you dont have to buy a card for your pc...

Well, if I do edited by ddp up flashing it is there any fix to it? I guess that should be more important.

And ya the Pioneer 111D was DL I just didn't read it write.

Ok, so here is what I'm getting and you tell me if I need anything else:

Pioneer 111D
Samsung SH-D162C
Verbatim DataLifePlus 8.5GB 2.4X DVD+R DL
Xtreme 5.0 Firmware for 360
Kreon Firmware for my DVD reader(?) (not sure if that's what it's for)

Guess mine is a double post to but I just saw you posted this, what I was saying is that I have the SATA ports already on my motherboard. To be specific I have a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D so I was wondering if I still need the SATA card.

Think that is about correct, but from my understanding:

There are ways of fixing it - again, tutorials on this site - very important to keep original firmware etc. However I'm not going off experience, just going off tutorials I've read!

Would also suggest the Xecuter connectivity kit (google search) - I think its for making connections to the dvd drive easier - as need to get power to the DVD drive etc... Dont want to have 360 powered up when its open etc. Or you have to get power to it somehow, and it isn't a standard PC connector.

I wouldn't think you would need another SATA card, seeing as you already have one there. But would wait for someone who could give you 100% answer mate.

The firmware is to allow the drive to read the disc succesfully - ignores the dodgy sectors or warnings to give a full dump etc... Can get pre-flashed drives, or when you download the firmware instructions are included.
