I got a psp for my son yesterday and i know that there is a way to download psp roms and play them off memory cards, i have had a little look around the site and couldnt find answers (if i missed them then im sorry)
i would like to know what software i need and the method to use to enable these roms to work.
i would also like to know what memory card i need, do i have to have a particular model/brand, particular size memory card and what type of card, can i get a cheapy sd card or do i need a sony duo plus stick?
thanks in advance.

First of all you need to check what firmware the psp has on it just now as you can only run game backups and homebrew on certain firmwares eg: 1.50,2.71 or custom firmwares 2.71se or the newest 3.02oe,then you need to make sure you have a motherboard that you can upgrade/downgrade.You should find this out before looking at downloading games and playing them, look round this forum all the info is in the sticky's and other threads.

Ok this is what you need to know
1) they are not called roms theny are called isos :)
2) You have to have firmware 1.50 to play them, after that you can go to 2.71 SE or 3.02 oe but don't worry about that for now.
3) The software you need to play them is called devhook
4) Before you decide to downgrade you have to check you have the right motherboard so you can downgrade. Use this to check if you have the correct motherboard

5) You can buy a sandisk or sony but if you want to put more then one game on youre psp at a time then you will nedd atleast a 1GB memory card. The memory stick you need is a duo or pro duo memory stick. They have written on them "Memory stick pro duo" or "Memory stick duo"
hope this helps if you need more info just tell me and i will do my best to help :)

sounds good so i check the firmware then get a "downgrader?" to 1.5.
i grab myself some iso's, throw some on a memory stick duo (for example a 1gb sandisk memory stick duo)
how big are the isos, i imagine they vary in size but what do they range from - to?
once i have downgraded to 1.5 and i have devhook, do i put that on the memory stick along with the isos?
thanks
also i got a new pc a month or two ago, how do i tell if my mobo is ok?

It's the motherboard of the psp you need to worry about as explained above,as for iso's they can come in all sort's of sizes alot are between 500mb and 1 gig, psp's can also use cso's and these tend to be a bit smaller than iso's ,i would'nt worry about that yet until you know what you can do with your psp.

hmm it seems to have moved places, harder to see, it looks like IC6001.
not sure what firmware it was but to play PES6 i had to update it to 2.71
there is an option to go to 2.81, i didnt fancy that.

Theres a guide floating around somewhere that tells you how to downgrade from 2.7 to 1.5, prehaps somebody could point it out to you.
After that you just go from version 1.5 to 3.02 OE-A which I am sure somebody else will point you in the direction of.
Then a quick 30 second upgrade to 3.02 OE-B and your ready to go, play any iso psp game and psone game straight from the memory stick.
I got a decent 2gb memory stick off ebay the other month for £28 and on that I can fit between 1 and 15 psp games on depending on size.
