I/O error when burning

I have lately been getting this error when trying to burn my dvds. I have no problem with decryptying them with DVDdecrypter or shrinking them with DVD Shrink. It is when I try to write the ISO image. The error I am getting is as follows:
I/O Error!

I have read the other data on this site and have tried usind DVDFab Decrypter and CloneDVD, but I seem to be having the same problem. The CloneDVD gets to about 98% and then says there is an error. I am using FujiFilm DVD+R and they have worked before so I am not sure if they are the problem. I would really appreciate some help, thanks.

Could be the Fuji's. Fuji uses different manufacturers so you can get a different one in each spindle you buy. For Fuji look for made in Japan.
What's the rated speed of the media?
What speed are you trying to burn at? If 8x - try 6x or lower.
Laptop drives ain't the best esp. Matshita.

Thank you for the reply binkie7. The fuji's are made in taiwan and are 16x. I tried running them at 8x and 4x with no improvement....I was still getting the same error. I also tried using RipIt4Me +DVD Shrink + ImgBurn, with the same outcome. Would you suggest buying different DVD+R to determine if that was the cause, or have any other suggestions? I appreciate the help, thanks.

Try to update your firmware if there is one available for your drive. Firmware plays a very important role when it comes to DVD burning, it helps to enhance the burning process and increase media compatibility.

There are no firmware updates for my drive-toshiba laptop. Besides, not sure if i am comfortable enough to do that since I have never done so. I think I will first try some different DVD+R, unless any other suggestions. Thanks for the response though.

Look for 8x media for this drive. I have the Matshita UJ840D - different model than you - and you got it no firmware updates for it either.
The laptop manufacturers are not that great at updating these drives if at all.
Mine does not do well at all w/ 16x media so when I do use it to burn I use Taiyo Yuden 8x.
Depending where you are 8x is getting harder and harder to find. You can get genuine 8x Taiyo Yuden online for reputable sites.

Ok, let me throw a curve at this post.
I recently had to re-install windows, and now i can only burn 1 out of every 3-4 dvds i burn, successfully. Ive read all the old posts. My sonys dru 500 and dru 710 both give me errors, theyre both updated firmwise and using new memorex and sony media.
Nero says incompatible media, etc.
DVD decrypter says power calibration error etc......
I cant believe both DVD burners would go bad at the same time...
Anyone help?

Ok let's see what we can do with this curve ball :)
Can you post a failed log for each burner? Just need one from each.
For Nero look here:
Using Nero 6 - program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
Using Nero 7 - program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory
Just be sure to edit out the serial number - usually begin w/ 1A. 1C or 5C.
Here's a blurb from Nero on power calibration errors (holds true for other burning porgrams & dvd's too)
Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.
Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.
If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.
Please try the following solutions:
* Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
* Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
* Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
* Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
* Send the recorder in for service.
