Problem with HDMI cable and Display Options

I have a HDMI cable hooked up from the PS3 to the back of the TV. I also have the S-video plugs in, and I went into the display settings, then video output settings (which said current output res 480i) I selected HDMI, and it says: "If Setting is not correct the screen will go blank temporarily. Then after 30 seconds the system will go back to the previosu screen."

Well, that happens. The screen goes blank so im guessing its not receiving a signal from the DHMI cable. I still havent been able to play the ps3 in HD. I Hope someone can help me out. Thanks!
