I recently tried using ConvertXtoDVD, since DVDSanta won't work for me anymore, and NeroVision sucks. However, when I convert and then burn a DVD, it seems to glitch in my player. The movie will play, the sound and video are great, but every few seconds, it will freeze for a second. It doesn't permanently freeze, only for a second, and then will continue playing before freezing again. I know everyone always jumps to the conclusion that it's either the media or burning, or the player, but I can't make any sense of it.

I've been using NeroVision until I can hopefully get ConverXtoDVD to work for me. To make sure it wasn't the file being corrupted, I've tried converting them using NeroVision, which works. When the DVD's didn't work with the VSO software, I tried the same files with NeroVision. I burnt them both at the same speed (8x) on the same media, and only the VSO ones glitch like this. And I tried burning them each a few different times, to make sure it wasn't just a problem in one of the blanks.

Basically, the ConvertXtoDVD created DVDs glitch and freeze every few seconds, while the ones created through NeroVision work perfectly fine. I know I should be happy with just using NeroVision, and I'm content with using it, but I'd rather also be able to use ConvertXtoDVD, since everyone says it's a wonderful program...And because it's alot quicker than NeroVision.

I also play them on a PS2, though I'm not sure if that should matter, since while they can be very particular about what they'll play, it plays the NeroVision created DVDs just fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since I can't seem to figure it out on my own. Thanks in advance for any possible help.

Hey brackis,

It's a PS2 thing.

We have an old Toshiba DVD player here at the house, and it plays the converted DVDs fine. But put them in a Playstation 2, and the skipping happens.

I found this thread while searching for the answer myself this evening. I found a forum with a guy who said his dvds worked fine in his PS2 when he was using DivXtoDVD (the predecessor to ConvertXtoDVD). I'm going to try to revert back to DivXtoDVD and see if it fixes the problem. Hopefully it does.

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with the media, or the burn-speed. It has to do with the PS2's shortcomings as a dvd player and the way this program converts things. I'm never going to give up on the program though, because it's faster than any other converter on my machine, bar none.

Are you letting ConvertX do the final burn? If so untick the burn option and then burn the resultant VIDEO_TS folder with Nero as a test. That's what I do as I've had problems with ConvertX's burn engine, which I believe has to do with Pcouffin.sys, a low level access driver, that it uses. Nero and others do not use this file.

I always used ConvertxToDVD's burn engine in the past and although it played fine in my player, I recently tried using IMGTool to convert the files to an ISO then burning with IMGburn. Comparing DVD's burned with both programs in DVDInfoPro showed that ConvertxToDVD's burn engine produced more PE/PI errors particularly at the beginning and end of the burn. So now I use ConvertXtoDVD for only converting and compiling to a menu and use IMGTool and IMGBurn for the final burning.

Also I forgot to mention that IMGBurn reccomends you disable AnyDVD before you burn the DVD....this isn't obvious unless you read the log with IMGBurn.

I've been using Nero to burn the Ddvds themselves, since it always seemed to work fine. I guess it's about time to give in and buy a standalone dvd player, and until then, use NeroVision. Any decent priced recommendations?

Thanks for the help, guys. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong, and all that.

I tried converting one with the old DivXtoDVD. Sorry it took so long.

I never even got a chance to try it. When I tried burning a 2-cd movie, DivXtoDVD put out two folders. One was 1.8 GB, and the other one was a few megabytes. There was one for each disc.

I guess it had a problem with burning two titles together. I had this problem before, so I noticed it immediately when I saw the two folders.

Been using ConvertX for creating the VOB and Nero for the burning with out issue here. When using DVD+R's which were giving me grief when trying to burn with ConvertX, using Nero seemed the easiest solution and it indeed was.

The old DivXtoDVD is way past it's prime, spend a couple of $ and go with ConvertX. Unfortunately it will end up with 2 title sets on a 2 part movie but they are in the same folder. You can combine first in VDubMod.
