Hey I plan on getting my cube modded(by a pro) in a few days and was hoping for some advice on what kind of media to buy.
I've heard that ridata is good for a mini dvd(I wont be able to afford the casemod right away)Is this true?
And are all ridata discs created equal?(do they make different kinds/qualities?)
what do you guys use?
and after I get the casemod are "Taiyo Yudens" a good choice for fullsize?(I have some in the house for burning xbox games(I was led to believe(here)that they were the best for xbox))
The MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME, IS NOT TO DAMAGE MY LASER!
Im sorry if I sound paranoid, but this is my Third GCN(The first two having f***ing Died due to disc read errors)

Please guys I've searched the boards and cant find anything on this except one thread.
And its more about best media for low iso failure.
people have told me that certain media can harm the laser, I dont even know if this is true, But I know you guys do.
Im trying to play by the rules here(respect the board and the board will respect you) but I honestly cant find anything on gamecube media(tons on backing up ps2 and xbox) but no gcn.
if Im in the wrong place, or something drop me a link. But otherwise Please, Somebody What kind of media?

ok here's what I found out on my own.
(In case any one else is searching the boards like me)
Ridata 1.47 mini -dvd's ARE "ritek G04" (at least some are, I dont know yet if they distribute other discs under the same brand)
as far as I can find out ritek G04 is excepted as the overall best recording dye for GCN backups.
some other ritek g04's can be found pictured here

Im gonna try the ridatas next week (happy new year) and I'll try to post the results here.

BTW to the (usually) friendly regulars here. Where are you?
I understand that its a policy here to ignore the requests of noobs who havn't searched the boards, or tried to help themselves, But usually someone at least drops in on the thread to tell the idiot what he did wrong.
I can't even get anyone to flame me. I feel so alone :(

I've been busy working and playing PSU :)

Anyway, you're on the right track. I use RiDATA G05 and it's been working fine. I do remember reading a topic about a year ago that G04 is better, but ah well.

A little tidbit about full size though. I used to have a refurbished rev. A GC that I used full size Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim DVD-Rs on. I use these all the time on my Xbox and PS2 without any issues, so I know it wasn't the media. My brother and I used to play the hell out of NGNT4 on it, and eventually killed the GC after a few months (laser died twice, and I think the motor started wearing out and couldn't spin fast enough). Now, the thing is, I'm pretty sure the only reason it happened is because I used full size media on it and my GC received over a thousand hours of playtime in a few months. So the lesson here is, if you plan on playing your GC a lot, I suggest sticking with mini DVD-Rs. Full size is fine and dandy for a casual gamer that plays maybe a couple hours a week, but for guys like me and my brother it was a horrible idea.

Thanks goes out to theridges for the userbars :)

Thanx ven.(I figured you were away on holli's)
Are G05 available in mini -dvd?
Ive heard that some of the mini ridata's are G04's but Im not really sure about the source I got that info from.
Is there any way to tell before you buy them? normally I load up blank dvd's in decrypter(or imgburn) and check the media ID. But mini's are kinda expensive(especially compared to the yudens(which I also use for xbox)
So I was wondering if its marked anywhere on the package?
Anyway thanx for the life(cube)saving tip about full size.

Are these also the good ones to use? Look like they are the G04's if not mistaken from what ad says.

okay I know its been awhile but i'm back.
thnx for the advice.
Ive got the mod done and been using ritek g04 minis and they work great...half of the time:(
the backups which run at all, run flawlessly but others either wont run at all or run as far as the startup screens (nintendo dolby etc) and then "an error has occurred please turn off gamecube and refer to game manual"
I am very afraid that this is a sign that I need to tweak my pot, as this is something I am not capable of doing.
I think that the guy who did my mod could do it, but he says that he has'nt done gc's before just ps2's.
Is it possible that tweaking could harm my cube(make the laser burn out or something?)
and is there any sense trying to reburn those particular games, or will the results be the same?
Im sure you guys must have had similar problems so please, any input would be appreciated
