I keep on downloading dvd-rip's,and everyone of them i have played say there is an unsupported format...I either get video and no sound,or sound and no video....is it my computer,is it the person who ripped them,or is it something that happens a lot,and is there a way to fix it...because i'm getting very frusterated...because my internet provider is very stricked about downloading and uploading...and when i download movies that don't work...I just waste a bunch of valuable downloading/uploading, and have a bigger chance of getting my internet suspended for a week....Is there anyway to get past these unsupported formats or any way to fix the file....because I have absolutely no idea

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi Steven,

Its sounds to me like it might be the software that you are trying to play them back through although someone else with more experience might prove me wrong.

Try something like Power DVD to play them through and see if that works for starters.

It may also be a good idea to post what you are currently trying to play them through and also what format they are in i.e Mpeg? VOB? AVI etc, this will help some of the more experienced forum members.

Good luck.

I think youve got codec problems. Either you have the right audio codec and the wrong video codec or vice versa. I suggest downloading the program GSpot and after you finish downloading and you find you cant watch the movie, run it through GSpot and it should tell you which codecs you need to view the movie.

I had a couple that were mpeg-1 and a couple that were avi....i tryed playing them in the new windows media player, and real player...Also when i try to convert from avi to mpeg,it says it can't because of the unsupported format.

It says something like rendring partially failed...because of an unsupported format...what does it mean to render, and what exactly does it do?

What the heck does "dajarvious" mean Shaunus?? I don't suppose you may be referring to 'Deja Vu', as in the experience of percieveing a new situation as if it had occured before? No?? :-)

I may be wrong but when GSpot 'renders' a file it means the program simulates playing the file and in doing so it gathers info on which codecs is needed to play the file. After it does this it should tell you which codec you need.

Did you try and click on the status bar near the bottom of the GSpot window to see exactly what GSpot has to report? You should find more info on what happened.
