My point exactly. My E6750 has been with me for well over a year now and has been through some serious sh*t with me in that time.

I'm keeping all my old components though and making a second build. I only really need to put in a spare HDD(500GB Samsung) and some new RAM, which is in my order. Some Patriot DDR2-800, which isn't bad at all and should allow me to keep the OC if I keep it near stock. Though I might lower it to 3GHz so I can drop the voltage and save on power.

I was thinking of selling the secondary build but I changed my mind. I need a torrent/LAN box anyway :)

But an upgrade is certainly due if I want to play Crysis, Mass Effect, and future games at native res. I really love Crysis especially and I think it's one of the best games to come out in years.

All of the new stuff is going back into my Thermaltake Armor and the old stuff is staying in the Raidmax Smilodon.

now if your gonna get rid of the E6750. give me a PM... ;)

here is another board you could look at.

GA-EP45-DS4P
it has the newest chipset and is alot cooler.also able to do crossfire. from what i have read about it, it works great with the Q9450.

Rob, the EP45 board can do proper crossfire due to the 8x/8x lane config.

P45 dual boards are nice, but I'd probably only recommend them if the second 16x slot was going to be used for something other than a graphics card, or not used at all. The X38/X48 chipsets have crossfire written all over them.

That's the thing. Now that I have the parts available for a whole second build, I might not have to get rid of it :) I still think it's an excellent processor.

Also, the order is already made :)

Nope, I run it at 50% at all times. It stays nice and quiet that way. Though, I think we established that your is/was newer than mine so yours might be even quieter at 50%.

I also polished the copper slug to a mirror shine if that makes any difference.

Ah right, I was going to say, because my E4300 @ 3.00Ghz saw no higher than 49ºC at full speed. What rpm is 50% on yours?

Between 2150 and 2200. It seems to fluctuate a bit. It's at 2160 right now.

We're talking 3GHz at full speed for you and 3.4GHz at 50% for me, so that seems about right as far as temps.

lol so that's 50%? Bizarre, I think something's up with your PWM! For me 50% was wel, 50%, not 80%!
I got temps of around 56-57C at 70% on my cooler, so for you to get 59 at 80% but at 3.4Ghz is OK I suppose. Depends if the 6750 puts out more heat than the 4300 stock.

Nope. My Tuniq Tower 120 is going back into full service this time. It really doesnt fit well in the Smilodon though, hence the move back to the Thermaltake Armor as well.

It's worked with these same RPMs as far back as I can remember with several different mobos and PSUs. Thus my theory of the older fan revision.

Tower coolers (brand unspecific) are really becoming popular, and with good reason. :)

I think the Tuniq Tower and the Thermalright Ultra are about the same too, so it's really down to preference. Most tower coolers work about the same.

The AC7 Pro is a good example of a tower cooler on a smaller scale.

Nah I'd put the Freezer 7 Pro in the 'midrange cooler' category along with coolers like the coolermaster hyper TX.
Tower coolers I'd say are:
Thermalright Ultra-120A
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme + Extreme Black
Tuniq Tower
Noctua NH-U12F, NH-U12P
Xigmatek 1283
Scythe Ninja
Thermalright IFX-14
Thermalright HR-01 Plus

I would take the Tuniq Tower over the Thermalright. At least the fan fits nicely.
