Help me clarify some things with my PSP

I've been sorta reading threads, but I guess I'm not 100% sure on everything so I'll ask you guys first before I do stupid things to brick my new PSP.

And so I got a new one for X-Mas. It's a TA-082 with 2.71 on it. What are the things that I CAN (safely) and CANNOT do with this? To the things that I can do, I would appreciate it if you could link me to the right threads/sites where I can read further more about it. Thank in advance, and happy holidays to everyone.

the most important thing u need to know rite now is not to downgrade that TA082 psp below 2.5, it will brick

as for playing isos on TA082.. its impossible rite now. i dont know much more than that, but im sure other ppl will help u =D

So...I can downgrade to 2.5? Just nothing below that? What would be the benefits in doing so?

sorry about the late reply but i been reading around the forum and it seems to me that u could run isos with 2.71Hen-D, heres a link:

but im still 95% u cant downdate pass 2.5, and since its basically pointless to downdate to 2.5 its not worth the risk of bricking imo

i would suggest u wait it out, TA082 would be cracked sooner or later ;)

Thanks for the links.

I also have Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and it requires 2.81. Is that where Devhook comes in? Emulate newer firmwares so I can play these new games...but without actually upgrading the firmware?

Yeah you can use DevHook 0.51 to emulate 3.02 and then run MGS:PO.

Just download this, run devhook to emulate 1.50 on your 2.71 TA-082 PSP, and play homebrew and back-up ISO's.

ZAiO HEND DevHook v0.51.0100 Package for PSP Firmware 2.71 (TA-082 mobos):

Mmmm, just so my head doesn't spin even more... how many different kinds of versions of Devhook for 2.71 TA-082's are out there? The link that you provided:

...so is that all I would need to play ISOs and homebrews? And since I'm not downgrading anything, there's no chances of bricking my PSP, is that right?
