Booting directly from HD/USB/Flash ???

I want to boot directly from the HD or a USB Drive without entering a disk with an application to the PS2.
I assume that's not possible and it has to be supported by the mod chip.
Is there any mod chip in the market which has internal disk space available for applz or you can direct booting from a different drive except CD Rom?
