helo guys, i am having a problem with my dvd drive.

you see i have burnt several cd's with my pc, they are data cds containing photos.

when i put them into my dvd drive on my laptop it recognises the fact that i have a cd-rom inserted but none of the data is shown, .
its as if i have put a blank cd in.

i have put the cds into other pcs and they work fine, but i cant get them to work on my laptop.

any help would be very much appreciated.

thanks

Does your drive recognize other CDs and/or DVDs?

First try terminating any background processes using CTRL-ALT-DEL and try putting the CD back in the drive. It might even be easier to reboot into Safe Mode and see if your CDs can be read.

Your next option if that fails is to try to update the firmware for your CD drive, though I doubt that will help.

And possibly your last option is to try uninstalling the DVD/CD drive. Go into Device Manager and Select your burner and uninstall the drivers for it. Then reboot (in normal mode) at let Windows find and "reinstall" the drive.

Hopefully your drive itself isn't the problem.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Did you, by chance, burn them onto CD-RW's? If they were burned using packet-writing software (which allows you to drag 'n' drop and erase off of a CD, like a hard drive), then yes, you might not be able to read the CDs on anything other than the computer that they were burned on, or at least uses the same packet-writing software.
