I just got a 360. I really don't want to shell out 110 bucks for the microsoft wireless adapter. I currently "share" a connection with a neighbor. Would it be possible to pick up any usb adapter to connect to the 360 to be able to log on to live? Also if it is able to be done, does a driver or any other software need to be installed?. I thank you in advance for any info.

No, you must use the official 360 wireless adapter. I think I've already answered this question today :)

Well that just sucks. How about the second part of the question. With the wireless adapter can I just pick up a connection?

I don't know. It's a plug and play adapter so it may work. But since you're borrowing a connection, it may not.

The adapter should pick up any wireless network in range. You will need to input the encryption key if the network is not open.

PS2Menace:
Google "max wireless adapter" it specifically states for xbox 360 and other gaming consoles. That is just one of many if you take a few seconds to look rather than offer incorrect advice. These forums are littered with your inaccuracies. If you are making an assumption...then it is better that you don't answer at all.

I have used this method also. But it isn't that stable I didn't think. It was hit or miss.

But it's not USB, it's a wireless bridge which connects to the ethernet port.

He has helped me many times with sound advice and as far as I was aware the microsoft adaptor is the only usb one you could use so I would have given the same answer as him.

Its a wireless adapter, just like the vender calls it...it connects the xbox 360 to an existing wireless network. The whole point of the post is whether there where other options than the Microsoft adapter...I showed one and other members provided others. Clearly there are other options. I personally have the Microsoft adapter because it handles A+B+G bands. I have my 2 xboxes on A and the rest of my computer equipment on G...

But David360 your post of the 4th January states
'Not correct...the are many USB wireless adapters that will work with the xbox 360...'
You were asked to prove there was one. The one you gave was not a USB one but an ethernet one. That was all my point was.
