CD ROM Drive Won't read CDs

Can anybody tell me why my CD ROM drive won't read any discs at all? When I look under properties it says the device is working properly, however it doesn't read anything. It just stopped reading one day. Is there a solution to this or will I just have to buy a new CD ROM drive?
