I have an older ps2 v7, using swap magic 3 and a flip top. I cant find any threads that relate to my problem. Some of my games work back-ups included and others just make a grinding sound. This started a few months after I put the fliptop on. I thought it was just newer games like Scarface, Tonyhawk p8 but some older games dont work either (LA rush, Test drive, Darkwatch) none of these games work at all. These are the RETAIL version not burnt copies. I have also tried making backups of thes games but I get the same problem. I read about resetting my laser but didnt want to try until I got some other possible causes. Thanks to anyone with a cure.
Do any of you know if this a laser problem or a software problem. I have read that some older games wont work with the slimline console due to the new mobo, and i am thinking this is why some games wont work with my v7, maybe they are more suited for the v12.
Lens has been cleaned no help with these games. I am pretty sure it is installed right, becaues most of my games do work - unless it only affects certin games. I think im gonna try readjusting the laser, anyone think this might help?
If you want to make sure that readjusting the leaser will then check the size or TOC of the games that work and that games don't work
if the games that work are always smaller in size then adujusting the leaser might be the best solution.
The reason that this would be the solution is because in some cases the laser can't go all the way to the outside of the disk when reading a big game and that means the laser needs adjusting.
I think your disk is resting on or is being pressed by the edges of the circled cut out for the disk. I had the problem too. Try loosening the closest screw to the reset/eject button.
I have opened the fliptop a few times while these games are doing this, and i can see the laser at the very outside edge of the disk. This is where it always is when this happens. I'll try the readjust now. Thanks for help!!!
I'll repost when i get this done to let ya know if it helped Chaomac.
