Alright i dont understand these technical mumbo jumbo easily. So i hope u guys can help me.

Today i was looking for nice HDTV LCD TV for my room to play my Xbox 360 on it. I dont get much gaming hours (just 2-4 hrs a day :( )right now as the LCD TV i have is in the hall and my parents watch those crappy soaps.

Anyway, so as i was looking around i saw many good 29-32inch HD LCD TVs for good prices. But what hit me was that on some LCD TVs it was written HD READY and on some it was written HD READY and HDMI input support. Whats the difference? Will i need HDMI support to play Xbox 360 on HD resolutions? Or does HD READY mean it already has HDMI support?

Please help me out!

Hi, The "HD Ready" logo on the TV means that it can accept and display a HD signal. (Be careful as clever marketing can be miss leading ? Ensure the TV has at least 720 horizontal lines in the resolution. E.g. 1280x720).

The HDMI is just another method of transferring the HD signal. The other contenders are Component (red, green, blue) and a VGA (similar to your computer connection to your monitor) but basically all will be able to produce the HD signal your after.

HDMI ? Transmits HD video and audio.
Component ? Transmits HD video only ? Audio can be transferred by optical or your standard phono (red and white cables)
VGA ? Transmits HD video ? Audio is usually transferred via a 3mm jack similar to the one you would plug into headphones into your MP3 player.

In short just make sure the TV you get has component inputs. Currently the 360 comes with these connectors as standard (might be the premium model only) so you don?t need to worry about HDMI for the moment. Save this slot for your PS3 or HDDVD player when you get one.

P.S. Get a 32 inch TV minimum to appreciate HD to its full and don?t forget to check what an analogue signal looks like on the TV your thinking about. In general HD signals will always look great but when viewing some poor analogue signals you can be sorely disappointed.

I was leaning towards an Ikon 32inch HD READY LCD TV which was very cheap compared to other models. I will check if it will have the component input (i have xbox 360 premium and it has a component cable).

Thanks a ton for you reply beetle.
