Okay, here goes and guys go easy on me, I'm a chick (not that it matters) and i have no technical jargon knowledge what-so-ever. I have an xbox 360 that my boyfriend had flashed (i guess). I am assuming what is actually flashed is the DVD drive and not the HD...I hope this is right. I now what to take the xbox 360 system and play live. I have been all over the internet researching for days and hours and have read many forums and articles that state that if your xbox has been flashed you cannot PLAY LIVE. Is this true and if so is there anyway around it that can be explained to me in the best of laymen terms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks Theresa

okay, but everything that i have been reading says that if you try to connect you xbox and go live that MICROSOFT checks to see if any new firmware has been added. If so, it bans the actual serial number of the xbox you are using. Also, when we took it to this guy and he took apart the insides of the xbox (lol) and flashed the drive, (is this what it is called?), he also mentioned that if we do decide to play live not to say YES to any new updates. Is this true and is this what would enable us to play live but, also get banned if we did say yes to updates?........Just a little confused....thanks though for replying i appreciate it very much. Just trying to understand everything. I have not played live yet and I am now considering networking the xbox with my PC so that I can play live but also, I am very interested in using the media portion for playing my music and downloaded movies on the TV in the living room. PC is in bedroom.

all the games we have are downloaded and burned. The only original game we have is the the racing game that came with the console.

Any burned or original game can be played on Live on a flashed xbox 360. Microsoft has not been banning anybody as of yet. I am playing on Live for a month nearly and i have had no problems with any of the updates or anything whatsoever. But it is always wise to use some caution and say no to any new update, check the forums if anyone of us has tried and then go ahead and apply update.
So you are safe for now but none of us are sure when microsoft will start banning people. So be careful.

You can indeed play on XBox live as of today, there is no way for Microsoft to know if your XBox360 has a flashed drive or not. This could change in the future, but right now they can't even edit/view your DVD firmware thru the XBox Update System.

Oh yeah, the "updates" the guy was refering to were game updates. You can update any game that has an update and still play on LIVE with a modded 360. The only updates that you MAY have to worry about are the dashboard updates but as of now, you're safe.

I would avoid the dashboard updates at all costes with a modded 360 until someone else has confirmed they are ok!
