backup of Tales of Rebirth freezes more and more often, what could be the cause?

The game always freezes during screen transitions like entering a town and such, but the music still plays and since load times are pretty long I wait for a while to see if it really did freeze. Once I confirm that it did, I reload it again with swap magic and it will happen even sooner, and after that it will freeze before it even gets to the title screen. Here is the stuff I used:
Compusa DVD+R 4x-Are these dvd's good for the laser? I really couldn't understand the checklist for all of those brands. If they aren't, can I buy the high quality stuff like verbatim at stores like best buy and such?
Swap Magic 3.3
DVD Decrypter-I followed the guide and did exactly what it said to

Does anybody know what kind of problem this is? The game only freezes when the screen is black, it's already done it about four times out of the three times I've played but it's NEVER happened just out of the blue.

I'm probably thinking it is the DVD's. Stick to Verbatim/Ritek G05/Taiyo Yuden's DVD-R's and you will be fine. Of course, if your DVD burner supports booktyping, buy DVD+R's. That is if they work on your PS2. I suggest DVD-R's as all PS2's can read them better. :)
