I bought and installed a Xeno GC Modchip about a month ago. The modchip came with 5 mini-DVD-R's that didn't work, however regular DVD-R's seemed to work. I am now home for christmas break and received *50 PlayO-brand mini-DVD-R's*. Zelda: Twilight Princess was my first burn with these. It ran for about a half hour before crashing and then refusing to run.
I checked my laser value and it was .006. I set it to .199. I've set it to .160, .177, .190, .230, .250 and none of these values seem to work. Unfortunetly I left my regular DVD-R's at college and I don't have any here to test. Some values have different errors however.
The first error is that the GC will not recognize the DVD and it will stop spinning and goto the GC bios (or whatever it is).
The second is that I will get a big red box with white text that says there is an error and to turn off my GC (this error message is right over the beginning GC logo).
The third is that a game will run (tho Zelda has only ran once since the day I burned it) for a few minutes until it crashes with a error message telling me to turn of the GC.
The last 5 laser values I've tried haven't gotten past error #1.
Questions:
1.) Am I even measuring the laser value right? Everyone says 200, 170 etc, but do they actually mean .200 and .170?
2.) Do you think the problem is my media?
3.) Or is my lazer fuxx0r'd?
4.) Any suggestions?
I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions!

1) Everyone mean 200 ohms, 190 ohms, etc. What kind of meter are you using anyway? I assume you're using a digital multimeter since they're fairly common nowadays. Just set it to a scale just above 200 ohms so that you'll get the most accurate values possible. Since you're getting .2 and such you most likely have it on the wrong scale or you aren't using it right.
2) http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm That could very well be part of your problem. You have garbage media, so expect crappy results. However, since you started messing with the pot using trash media, your problems might have gotten worse.
3) Maybe. If you lowered the pot too much just to get that media working then it could be.
4) Get better media. Also, try to get an accurate value for the pot's resistance and hope that you didn't drop below 100 ohms.
yeah 2k ohms will give you the result you need; and yes, .200 corresponds to 200 ohms (I tested my gc "out of the box" and it read .178 or 178 ohms)
Your laser being set to .006 might mean you need a new laser now .. do original games work?
Turns out Zelda has caused problems with other people too, just read the other latest threads. Try another iso, and try another brand of mini or full size dvd-r's .. I had the same problems with mini DVD-Rs and zelda - a full size solved the problem. You could also try a different burn speed .. basically try everything :)
Sorry dude, the science of mod chips isn't perfect, you'll just have be patient :p
