My computer tells me I've got this virus, and I've tried downloading the free trial versions of malware removal software, but nothing that has worked for other people has worked for me. I read a similar post on this site that helped someone, but it sounds like each case is unique. I don't know what the HijackThis report is, or how to get one, but would love for someone to walk me through getting rid of it. Thanks for your help!

Hi rtracy and welcome to aD!

Please read and follow instructions here first.

Then, to get a HijackThis log do the following:
Download HijackThis (click the link)
Create a new folder in C:/ named HjT
Unzip(extract) the file to the newly created folder.
Open HijackThis.exe
Click "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
Notepad will open with the log. It will also be saved in the HjT folder.
Please post your HiajckThis log in the other thread.

Ok, so I did everything up to scanning my system with one of the online services to see if anything came up and a couple of things came up (4 Hacking tools & root kits, 2 Spyware) and during this scan, it froze and wouldn't finish. The message that was telling me that I had a virus is no longer there, but when I use these online scans, it keeps telling me there is a threat.

Here is a file of what HijackThis came up with. Hope it helps.

The hacking tools found by ActiveScan are most likely SmitfruadFix's files.

Run a scan only with HijackThis, check these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {67982BB7-0F95-44C5-92DC-E3AF3DC19D6D} - C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Object\isaddon.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: Protection Bar - {0D045BAA-4BD3-4C94-BE8B-21536BD6BD9F} - C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Object\iesplugin.dll (file missing)

Close all windows except HijackThis, then click Fix checked.

Java is out of date.
Go here and download Java Runtime Environment 6.0.
Uninstall all previous version and updates of JRE via Add/Remove Programs.
Restart and install Version 6.0.


Should be fine after that. Any problems?
