Hi djaxx and welcome to aD!
First, extract the HijackThis file to a permanent folder. Running HijackThis from a temp folder will not allow backups to be created.
Then, go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall:
Viewpoint Manager (if you didn't install)
Viewpoint Toolbar (if you didn't install)
BPS Spyware Remover <--rouge anti-spyware program. Read here for more information.
Run a scan only with HijackThis, check these(if there):
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3...LION&pf=desktop

Close all windows except HijackThis then click "Fix checked".
Locate and delete these folders:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Viewpoint <--folder
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <--folder
C:\Program Files\Sysxp <--folder
If access is denied, delete them in safe mode.
To boot in safe mode: press F8 before the Windows load screen, select "Safe Mode" from menu, and press Enter.
Next, go here and download CCleaner.
Note: If you do not want Yahoo! Toolbar uncheck the option when installing.
Open CCleaner.
Click Options > Advance > uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
Close all windows.
Click Cleaner > Run Cleaner.
Exit CCleaner.
Java is out of date.
Go here and download Java Runtime Environment 6.0.
Uninstall all previous version and updates of JRE via Add/Remove Programs.
Restart and install Version 6.0.
Then, go here to run Kaspersky Online Scanner.
After downloading, click "My Computer" to scan.
After scanning, click "Save report as".
Save as a text file on the desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky log along with a new HiajckThis log in your next reply.

SpywareBot is also a rouge anti-spyware program, so uninstall it.
Then, fix these with HijackThis(if there):
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3...LION&pf=desktop
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareBot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
Turn off System Restore.
Right click My Computer > Properties > System Restore tab > check "Turn off System Restore".
Click Apply, then OK.
Restart and turn System Restore back on.
How are things? Task Manager still disabled?

Download Rootkit Revealer from here.
Create a new folder, named RKR, in C:\
Extract the files to the new folder.
Open RootkitRevealer.exe.
Close all other windows and click "Scan".
Important: Leave the computer idle while the scan runs.
When the scan is finished, click File > Save... to save the text file to the C:\RKR\ folder.
Please post the log in your next reply.

@ Niobis.. Hi.. I have seen this behaviour with a win32-p@rite variant.. some notes for you from my findings with it.
A good plan of attack is to check for a file calleed "hide.exe" which will be lurking in the system/system32 folder. It's usually hidden and has a hidden sub-directory running a stealthed apache process which doesn't load at startup, rather when a browser window is opened and online. If attempts are made to delete it while in windows it makes multiple copies of the installer program with random names all through any folder with the characters "shar" in the name, and is almost impossible to kill.
If hide.exe is found then it's overwritten csrss.exe with malware, and corrupted all recent restore points.
Boot to a pure dos shell after making notes of exactly where all the instances of the installer, and it's associated application are and delete them..then you will need a clean, new copy of csrss.exe (though without the installer and the hidden application it's pretty much neutered!)
This nice (not) monster is normally caught from so called "adobe-all-applications-serials & keygen" files downloaded from limewire!!, or other things from the same source that download and run themselves without being selected. The user can be suspected of attempted to use/crack/run warez.. Not accusing anybody of anything because this thing is in the wild too these days.
Maybe helpful, or this may be a totally new variant.

I know exactly how frustrated you must be, exactly the same thing happened to me, eventually I had to post a pic of the results
