No audio with VirtualDub

Have VCR hooked up to external capture device(ADS technologies) which is connected to PC via USB 2.0. Able to capture AVI video clips with VirtualDub but no sound with playback. Tried connecting RCA jack directly into line input of sound card and still didn't work. Is there a specific setting under the audio tab that I need to change? By the way, I can capture both audio and video with ULead 6.0 software but I'd rather use virtual dub
