i have swap magic coder 3.8 on my memory card but i dont have a modchip, can i boot backups using the swap magic coder on my memory card

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can boot backups from your memory card. Try searching around this forum and you will find a tutorial.

How did you get Swap Magic 3.8 on your Memory card? I'm curious..

i got the elf file from cryptbreaker and i got someone with a modchip to with a modchip to put it on my memory card using ulaunch.elf

Remember, you need to use some kind of swap method, either swap tool (http://orthogonl.byethost9.com/files/PS2/tutorials/SlideCards.pdf) or flip top to insert the backup disc without the PS2 knowing.
