And you are sure you use cd-boot disc (and not dvd)?
Swap Magic 3 needs no-soldier mod-chip or Slide Tool / Flip Top Cover... what do you use? (or does 3.6 need them?)
EDIT: and you have this problem only with cd, and not dvd games?
(DVD-R should work, not +r)

Yes, the DVD version works fine, I have a fliptop, but I don't use it, I use the slide tool,
and yes, I made sure i was using the cd one not the dvd one, the dvd one works fine with DVD+R backups, I havent tried -R, I have no idea why it doesn't work.

Just to make sure, it is an original swap magic 3.6 and cd is not scratched?
Does your ps2 load up original cd games?
Does those cd's work on some1 else ps2?
Not sure with Slide Tool, but I have read some big troubles with games bigger than 650mb (80min games)...
