Hope for a few pointers, I've got a Nokia Dbox 2 however the ethernet port doesnt seem to be working - i've tried maually setting ip's and using dhcp but getting nothing.

Its currently running sportster 1.6 and was looking to either upgrade to commando 6 or sportster 1.8 as its not detecting any channels - so was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to upgrade the flash solely using a serial connection ??????

Hi pob,

I've read on some forum somewhere that flashing by serial port is quite possible but from what I read it is a bit complicated and takes around an hour to tranfer an image.
You need to do a bit of searching or confirm that your ethernet port is goosed, have you tried flashing with IFA?

how did you come to the conclusion your ethernet port is faulty. Did you connect via a cross over cable or a hub/switch.

i dont mind if it takes ages to do just via serial as the box isnt picking any channels up at the moment.

I cant use IFA as it says "boot net failed" - I've also tried manually setting an IP on the box through the menu, and dhcp with no connection.

Again i've tried both x-over and straight through.

PS - I'm a computer engineer so networking aint a problem ;o)

once had someone who couldnt connect to his dbox and he though the ethernet port was faulty. turned out it was his switch was not auto-negiotating correct - as the dbox is only 10 MB hafl duplex .. after using a cheap hub all worked fine...

when using IFA the application uses ARP to assign an IP Address to the box, and thus the network settings in the dbox is not used.

No when i try and ping it I get "Hardware error"

I know the laptop works fine so can only assume its the dbox port that is faulty.

Do you know of a way to upgrade the image just via serial ?

is the hardware error generated when you ping from the PC or DBox

I assume (as you are a PC Engineer) you have pinged your local network point on your latop/desktop (127.0.0.1) to confirm it is not your laptop/desktop network port that may be faulty.

Yes, the laptop when on my home network works fine, either on dhcp or static.

The hardware error comes as a ping response from the dbox when tried from the laptop.

Hello Pob, i've got the same problem with my Sportster Pro is corrupt, menu has gone dodgy graphics & won't scan for channels.
I still get info in LCD so pretty sure box is still ok, but i can't connect to it at all.
My Dbox I.P settings vanished so i can't FTP to box. I'm try'ing IFA but getting Boot net failed.........Done all the usual sugestions...firewall off, correct crossover cable, 10 half mode, media sensing off, removed Norton, disabled other network........no joy! Doin my head in now!
I've manually set my network card to 192.168.3.10, 255.255.255.0
& left the DBOX settings blank & been told IFA uses ARP to asign I.P from Dbox mac address?
Could you advise if my Network settings sound right?

Let me know how you get on with yours please mate.
