First I was trying to copy a defected DVD. After I gave up on that I discovered that shrink was taking about three times longer to copy then usual. I also noticed that in the window that appears when your burning , in the top left corner of it ,where it says the percent that has been burned, that it was flickering on and off..I managed to fix the slow burning problem by doing a system restore. I took her back to Dec 12th.. Now every thing is as it was. Fast. I got that idea from here, reading the thread on slow shrink problem. Thanks everyone who offered there good advice on that topic. I'm now a happy camper.

ya it seems like quite a few of us have been having this problem as of late. It seems to be happenin do to multiple read errors & then our pc's change our current transfer mode to the pio setting, rather than dma. When ever this happens (slowness) just right click the IDE controller, click uninstall & then reboot the pc, windows will change it back to dma after that.

i'm lucky, my main ripping drive, a lowly 3yr old cdwriter/dvd-rom combo drive lives in a USB2.0 enclosure and it's chomped thru 1000s of dvd's without issue (DMA isn't an issue for USB devices)

Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W
Network ~ DD-WRT ~ 2node WDS-WPA2/AES ~ Buffalo WHR-G54S. 3node WPA2/AES ~ WRT54GS v6 (inc. WEP BSSID), WRT54G v2, WRT54G2 v1. *** Forum Rules ***

which, the enclosure, or the ripping drive. either way yes there's unbelievable amount of choice for enclosures out there, i'm looking to buy a few more at the moment and the only reason i haven't yet is because i'm spoilt for choice..
