Won't read discs?? PS2 gurus help....

I have a PS2 that I bought with a chip installed that would not read discs. The guy told me it was the laser, so I brought it home and installed the laser from my PS2 which I know for a fact was working, and it still won't work.. It boots up and goes to the browser, but when I pop in a game (brand new) it "reads" the disc forever and nothing shows up. It doesnt evn say disc read error. Its a SCPH-50001 ps2. Any help would be appreciated.

Is your laser compabible with the other ps2 and are u sure its modded (is there a chip in the back with bunches of wires) That guy might of ruin the PS2 trying to install the chip. If u have a few pictures it might help.
