OK my burner is a POS Philips DVDR, for my laptop.
What was making my drive to freeze:
I always used Verb DVD+R DL discs, and burned on 2 - 2.4 speed. My booktype was also default on dvd ROM. And with all that I kept spitting out coaster after coaster. I only had 2 out of 10 discs actually finish. the two that did finish worked fine, so I know my drive was capable of producing a good burn. So as you can see 2 out of 10 discs worked, thats pretty depressing.
Ok here's what I did, and I have had 100% success since then. I didn't update the FW or get a new drive, actually I was just screwing around with imgburn's settings...
first I loaded a blank DL in my drive. opened IMGBurn, and then clicked tools then settings. I clicked on the write tab then started experimenting. Since the freezing always started after the layerbreak I put the setting on USER SPECIFIED and set it to the # that comes with the .DVD file 1913760 I think.
NOW here is what made the difference, I am not really sure why, but....
In the same write tab I selected Use Layer Jump Recording for (-R DL). Obviously I am not using -R DL, but hey after 8 coasters its time to improvise.
Next I Unchecked all that verify crap. I figure my 360 will verify it for you, lol.
Next I cranked all the Buffers up as they were set pretty low on default.
Next I cleaned my Temp files from my computer and closed ALL the application that were not being used. In task manager you can do that.
Finally I rebooted my PC, after it booted up I opened IMGburn, popped in a fresh Verbatim DVD+R DL, and selected the .DVD file to burn. This time it was Rainbow 6, so I was extra determined to get it working. Selected 2.4 write speed and clicked start.
Since then my drive has never froze once!!! and I have had a 100% success rate with my back-ups. Mind you I was testing on my Sammy MS28 with Xtreme 4.2. So Hitachi's might be diff. im not really sure. Im at 9 successful burns IN a ROW.
Hope this helps people with lees than adequate hardware IMGburn works 100% for me with those settings.
Let me know if it works for ytou too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO Happy NeW YeaR, and Il see you on XBOX LIVE in 2007 Fu***rs.
