Wireless Network Connection Difficulties

Hello. I have a wireless connection inside my home, via a ParkerVision WR1500 wireless G router, and today I purchased a Belkin Wireless G game adapter, since it was much cheaper than the Microsoft version and promised to do the same thing. I connected it to my 360's ethernet port, and used the USB cord that came with the adapter as its power supply. The instructions said that if the wireless network was unsecured (as mine is), then all I'd have to do is connect the adapter, press the auto-connect button, and I'd be able to connect. I did all of this, and attempting to connect to XBox Live produced a message saying that the connection failed. I have a desktop PC on the same wireless network, further away from the router, which is working flawlessly. I made a call to Belkin's support line, and they said something about opening a port on my router, though for the life of me, I could not make out the words the man attempting to help me was saying.

I've used Xbox Live before through a wired connection, but would much prefer the wireless method. I would also rather get this wireless adapter to work than taking it back to the store and paying $40 extra for the Microsoft one which could potentially have a similar problem.

Does anyone know exactly what I have to do to get myself connected? Thank you.

Trust me just get the offical microsoft adpter, you will not have the same prob
