I recieved the US silver PS2 when it first came out. At first, the system was working perfectly. Now, I'm running into problems. For some reason, it has trouble booting up certain games. It can boot up God of War perfectly, and even music CDs and DVDS. However, all other games do not boot up initially. I have figured out that the disc initally spins, then slows down, speeds up, slows down, then steadily spins at a slow pace. After about 30 seconds, I get the "Disc cannot be read" screen. The only solution I have found is to repeatedly open and close the disc cover until the motor "catches" and the game spins correctly. I don't see how this is a motor or laser problem as the system is still fairly new, but I haven't found any documentation on the 77001 (which has different hardware) so I was wondering if I could get some help.

If you are still under warranty, get it exchanged.
Has the console dropped recently, if yes, it could be that the motor wire is not plugged into the motherboard properly, I opened my slimline once, and didnt attach the motor wire properly, so it was causing the same problem, thought the laser was probably gone weak, opened it to have a look, and it was just a loose cable, make sure you dont open the system if you are under warranty, unless if you want to.
