I was able to use dvdshrink for quite some time. Over the past few months I have not been able to get anything to rip, new or old. Any thoughts? I just tried a movie from 1980 and 2002. I can open the disc, but as soon as I go to backup, dvdshrink shuts down. Sometimes I will get a message about being RCE protected.

Newer movies DVD Shrink can not handle by itslef, it needs the help of another program to get through protections. A program like AnyDVD works very well.

In regards to your other problems, have you tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling a fresh verio?

Well I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it and I am still not able to rip the older movies. I understand the newer ones take something extra, but don't understand about the ones that I used to be able to do in the past.

Shrink cannot do the newer released movies (even older movies just released) due to encryption problems. Pay and Free programs are available:

For new Encryptions you need AnyDVD or DVD Fab Decrypter or Ripit4me

Since Shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer updated it cannot handle the newer encryptions on the discs. You'll need a program like AnyDVD with free trial for 21 days from here:

Or a free program like DVD Fab Decrypter from here:

I've been fortunate. Shrink has worked on probably 70% of my new movies all by its lonesome. And for the other 30% (mostly Sony releases) I use DVDFab Decryptor. Unfortunately 2006 was a crumby year for movies. Hopefully 2007 will be better.
